Desktop support takes a little more setup.

The Browser extension does not need this helper. Desktop mode uses a small Windows program to inspect the Claude window through UI Automation and act only when the intended chat and controls can be identified safely.

Start with Browser mode

Published Desktop package

Windows installer + Chrome extension

The ZIP includes the Desktop helper and a separate Chrome extension folder. Chrome still requires the manual Load unpacked step below.

No public Desktop ZIP release has been published yet.

Before you begin

What Desktop mode requires

Keep the PC awake and signed in at the scheduled time. The helper runs on the same Windows account as Chrome and Claude Desktop.

Windows PC

The packaged helper is built for Windows x64 and installs per user. It does not need Node.js, Python, or a compiler on the test computer.

Chrome extension

Chrome requires you to load the unpacked extension manually. The installer cannot silently add it to Chrome.

Claude Desktop

Open Claude Desktop and sign in. The helper needs an accessible conversation, composer, Send control, and message history to verify delivery.

Install and connect
  1. Download the published Desktop installer ZIP above and choose Extract All.
  2. Open the extracted folder. Confirm it contains START-HERE-DESKTOP.txt, INSTALL-DESKTOP.md, extension, desktop-helper, and desktop-installer.
  3. Open PowerShell in the extracted package folder and run:
powershell.exe -NoProfile -ExecutionPolicy Bypass -File .\desktop-installer\install.ps1
  4. In Chrome, enable Developer mode, choose Load unpacked, and select %LOCALAPPDATA%\ClaudeAutoResume\extension.
  5. Copy the extension ID displayed on its Chrome card. Return to the installer window, press Enter, and paste that ID to register the helper for this extension.
  6. Open Claude Desktop and sign in. Open the extension, select the conversation, refresh its list if needed, then run Desktop Diagnostics.
  7. Schedule a harmless test only after diagnostics says the chosen task is ready. Do not retry an uncertain send until you have checked the conversation.

When setup gets stuck

Common fixes

Desktop support depends on what Windows UI Automation exposes in your installed Claude Desktop version.

“Native host not connected”

Confirm that you loaded the extension from %LOCALAPPDATA%\ClaudeAutoResume\extension and registered the exact extension ID shown at chrome://extensions. If the extension ID changes, run desktop-helper\install-native-host.ps1 from the extracted package again, enter the current ID, and reload the extension.

No chats appear in the conversation list

Open Claude Desktop, sign in, and keep its window open. Refresh the list. If the helper still cannot identify the chats, run Desktop Diagnostics and review the reported reason; this is a UI Automation limitation, not a Chrome account-sync issue.

Diagnostics finds a chat but says it is not ready

The helper requires a unique chat target, a unique writable composer, and enough accessible message information to verify a send. The Send control is checked again at execution time. Do not schedule until diagnostics passes.

How do I uninstall Desktop support?

Run desktop-installer\uninstall.ps1 from the extracted package to remove the helper registration and installed files. Then remove the extension separately at chrome://extensions.

Can Cloudflare run Desktop prompts while my PC is off?

No. Cloudflare can store a task and mark it due. The local Chrome extension and native helper still need to be running with Claude Desktop available to act.

Desktop is optional

Try the simpler Browser setup first.

Browser mode does not require a Windows helper or native-messaging registration.
